Working with Heron

How We Work

You do not need to know the exact cause, define the solution or choose an engagement model before we begin. Heron first clarifies what is happening, what needs to change and the simplest level of support that can realistically move the work forward.

What working with Heron looks like

A clear, practical process from diagnosis or definition through to delivery.

Every engagement is shaped around the priority, the business and the people who will need to make the change work. The process reduces uncertainty early, avoids solving the wrong problem and leaves the business with clearer systems, stronger capability and practical next steps.

01

Diagnose what is really happening

We speak with the people involved, examine the relevant workflows, systems, information and controls, and distinguish the underlying causes from the visible symptoms.

02

Prioritise what matters most

The issues are prioritised according to operational impact, urgency, effort and dependency. You receive a clear view of where to begin and what can wait.

03

Design and deliver the response

Heron develops the workflows, responsibilities, systems, reporting or implementation approach needed to address the agreed priority.

04

Embed the change in practice

Implementation may be led by your team, delivered together or led by Heron. The objective is not simply to recommend a solution, but to help ensure it becomes part of the way the business operates.

Three delivery paths

Three ways to deliver and embed the solution

Your team can implement the blueprint, we can build the solution together, or Heron can lead the work from start to finish.

Your team leads the implementation

A clear blueprint your team can put into practice

Heron diagnoses the problem, designs the solution and provides the practical blueprint, documentation and support your team needs to implement it.

This suits businesses with capable internal people or trusted providers who can lead the work once the direction is clear.

You are not handed a generic report and left to interpret it alone.
We deliver it together

Shared delivery with structure and momentum

Heron works alongside your team through guidance, coordination, review and agreed hands-on support.

Your people remain involved and build capability while Heron helps maintain structure, momentum and accountability.

A practical middle ground between being left with a plan and handing the entire project over.
Heron leads the delivery

End-to-end delivery where capacity is limited

Heron leads the agreed design and implementation work, coordinating the people, systems, suppliers and activities required to deliver the project.

This suits businesses that do not have the internal time, capability or leadership capacity to manage the change themselves.

The scope, responsibilities and expected outcome are agreed before significant work begins.
What you can expect

Advice without an agenda. Solutions your team can own.

The work is designed to create confidence before commitment and useful capability after the engagement ends.

Clear scope before significant work begins

You will understand the priority, proposed approach, responsibilities and expected outcome before committing to a larger body of work.

Direct access to the person doing the work

You work directly with Trent rather than being sold by a senior consultant and handed to a junior delivery team.

Recommendations without a product agenda

Heron sells no software and receives no commissions. Technology is recommended only where it supports the operating need.

Your team is involved, not worked around

The people closest to the work are included appropriately so solutions reflect operational reality and are more likely to last.

Useful outputs, not a generic consulting report

Outputs may include prioritised actions, redesigned workflows, role clarity, procedures, reporting structures, implementation plans, technology requirements and decision support.

Capability remains inside the business

The aim is to reduce dependency and leave the team better able to manage the operation after the engagement ends.

The first steps

What happens after you get in touch?

There is no formal briefing process and no need to prepare a diagnosis. The first conversation is simply to understand the situation and whether Heron is likely to be useful.

01

A practical first conversation

A free, no-obligation 30-minute conversation with Trent about what is happening, what you have already tried and what you would like to improve.

02

Agree the smallest sensible next step

Heron recommends the most proportionate starting point. That may be a predefined Focused Improvement, an Operational Diagnostic or a broader support arrangement.

03

Confirm the scope before paid work begins

The outcome, scope, responsibilities, timing and fees are agreed in writing. Larger work can be staged rather than committed to all at once.

If Heron is not the right fit, you will be told plainly. The objective is to identify the right next step, not manufacture a larger engagement.
A practical first step

You do not need to have the answer before starting the conversation

Tell Heron what is happening, what needs to change or what important work needs to move forward.
